Government of Russia today has mobilized thousands of people to do the cleanup remains of buildings destroyed by the explosion of a meteor that fell in the city of Chelyabinsk, in the Ural Mountains, about 1,500 kilometers east of the capital Moscow.
The television station CTV News reported on Sunday (17/2), approximately 24 thousand people, including volunteers, began cleaning up debris and broken glass which destroyed more than four thousand buildings. Meteor explosion happened two days ago was also caused 1,200 people were injured, mostly due to broken glass.
Meteor explosion is estimated to have a force equivalent to 20 atomic bombs. The Russian government yesterday said 40 people were still in hospital, and two of them suffered serious injuries.
Chelyabinsk Governor Mikhail Yurevich estimated losses resulting meteor explosion reached Rp. 318 billion. Yurevich said the windows will be replaced within the next week.
The volunteers not only help improve the building, but they also collect aid such as clothing and food. This is because the temperature in Chelyabinsk reaching minus 12 degrees celsius.
Some residents were also seen carrying plastic sheeting and boards to cover glass and the window was broken. Glass companies from around the area were also reported to be helpful. (aciz/c4rt)
